Road racing is by definition a challenge, requiring the athlete to overcome himself, to give more when he feels he can no longer stand it. This becomes even more acute when external conditions are difficult.
The Athens Half Marathon, which was held the day before yesterday under extreme weather conditions, was a typical example. And it is true that the thousands of runners, whether they participated in the Half Marathon or in the 5 km race, really outdid themselves.
Having the opportunity to observe their efforts closely, since the Perception team was actively engaged in activities implemented during the event, we have to take our hats off to these people.
The vast majority of them being amateur runners of all ages, they covered the distance under rain, snow, strong winds and single digit to zero temperatures!
So, if we are looking for – to speak in communication terminology – the true message of the race, it is obvious: the will and the commitment to the goal know no obstacles. The next time you hear someone complaining about the lack of morale, will and determination in today’s “deranged” society, remember the 2022 Athens Half Marathon.
