According to the annual survey of socialmediatoday.com, social media users worldwide have reached 3.8 billion, a number that almost amounts to half the population of the planet!
Certainly, the conditions that developed throughout 2020, and especially the universal adoption of social distancing, further helped the development and penetration of social media across the globe. But the truth is that this trend has been growing for at least a decade, having practically changed the media landscape irreversibly.
Even more interesting, however, is a qualitative approach to the use of these media, at least from the point of view of commercial, business logic. Thus, according to a parallel research conducted by the same portal, the main goal of companies that use social media platforms is none other than awareness.
This is a remarkably interesting fact, considering the other goals against which this statistic was measured. So in all the media included in the research (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, Pinterest) the awareness goal was first everywhere gathering from 30% to 39%, while the other goals (sales, customer service, community engagement) were firmly behind in preference.
